Biography

Dr. Oraib Al-Ketan is a scientist in charge of the Advanced Manufacturing Core facility at New York University Abu Dhabi. He earned his Ph.D. degree in Interdisciplinary Engineering from Khalifa University, UAE, and his M.Sc. in Materials Science from the Grenoble Institute of Technology, France. His research interests cover three thematic areas: (1) Engineering Applications of Additively-Manufactured Cellular Materials and Composites, (2) Design for Additive Manufacturing (DfAM), and (3) Additive Manufacturing Processes and Materials. In the first research area, he focuses on investigating the relationships among material characteristics, geometrical features, fabrication processes, and physical properties of additively manufactured materials and structures for various engineering applications. Examples include lightweight cellular materials optimized for structural stability, load-bearing capacity, and improved crashworthiness under impact and blast loading, innovative 3D-printed catalytic converter substrates, thermal management devices, static mixers, and feed spacers for wastewater treatment. In the second area, he is dedicated to developing widely used, standalone DfAM software. In the third area, his work aims to overcome the limitations of additive manufacturing's industrial implementation, emphasizing validating the suitability and cost-effectiveness of integrating additive manufacturing with conventional manufacturing chains. His contributions to the field are highly cited and well-documented across a multitude of scientific articles, patents, conference proceedings, and book chapters, underscoring his influence in the scientific community. Dr. Al-Ketan was ranked among Stanford's top 2% of world scientists in the single-year citations category for three consecutive years from 2021 to 2023. In 2023, he was awarded the Abdul Hameed Shoman Award for his work in Additive Manufacturing.
